[Nathaniel looks like death warmed over, which is perhaps a step up from just looking dead but it's a very long way from looking well. Still, he doesn't let that get in the way of responding to a reasonable request.]
I would be pleased to speak on such terms, Herr Leickenbloom.
Excellent. You are, as ever, a rational and reasonable young man.
Please know that it was not my desire nor my order that you be killed. We have ever had an amicable relationship and you have proven yourself worthy of what small trusts we have provided one another. As you can see, I have also paid for the actions taken the other day. And I am not unaware that given Johann's constitution and the constitution of his warden, I am no doubt the most reasonable and understandable avenue for seeking repayment should it not be properly offered.
Thus I should like to know what restitution you might be interested in that is within my power to provide within reason to the satisfaction of both parties.
[Text is easier on the throat, and, more importantly, it allows him to properly consider what's being said instead of having to balance that against maintaining a picture of composure in this compromised state.]
Once I was informed what happened after my death, I did not believe that you played an active role in the plan. If you can call it such. Yet Johann is your servant, so his actions cannot be fully detached from your account.
Still, I would prefer to maintain an amicable relationship, if possible. Restitution is to be favored over retribution. It wasn't your order, and the nature of relationships here are not always the same.
I am also aware that Johann was not 'working' alone.
Given your discretion and your demonstrated patience, I feel confident in assuring you that his accomplice will not be addressed in such a gentlemanly fashion.
But they will be addressed. I am certain you understand why I do not intend to speak further on it at the moment.
If there is a part I can play, I would not object. As long as my name would not be brought into in any way.
[He prefers to keep quiet, but he would always pick action over secrecy. He just thinks that would be fair enough recompense, and asking for nothing would be insulting in its own way.]
Keep Johann away from me, and we can consider our account settled in this.
I won't claim that if I find a different way to hurt Johann, I wouldn't pursue it. But if status is maintained, I would speak to you on the matter first.
That is entirely reasonable. And I truly appreciate your willingness to work with me on the matter, Herr Mandrake. It is indeed refreshing to be able to settle such matters with a minimum of difficulties on all sides.
I often wish that people here - and back home - would chose to act in a more reasonable manner. It would be hypocritical of me not to be pleased at the opportunity to settle these matters without the fuss required when someone refuses to even acknowledge that there are matters that need to be resolved.

[ A harsh swallow- ]
Possibly through text. Considering.

But to move right along, is there some service or potential service that would address the debt to your satisfaction?

[ And stop making ourselves more sore, since the real meat of the issue is handled. ]
